In 2005, Jackie Brown attempted to run the "world's hardest race", the Badwater 135. She competed at the race but missed the 48-hour official-finish cutoff by 28 minutes. Crushed, she was determined to come back and become an official finisher. However, soon after the race, her mother, father, and husband passed away.
